  1. Energy Alberta has submitted the Initial Project Description to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada for the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project.
    The Assessment will evaluate the potential effects of the Project on the environment, health, society and the economy.
  2. Concerns of the Measles outbreak in Alberta continue to be present. 74 confirmed cases have been recorded in Alberta.
    In the Northwest, the beginning of the outbreak occured with cases found in John D’Or Prairie last month.
    It prompted the Little Red River Cree Nation to initiate vaccination programs.
  3. Construction is set to begin on the new Primary Care Clinic in High Level.
    The building is an extension of the Northwest Health Center, and it will support primary care and specialty clinic access for the area.
  4. The province has launched a new campaign to encourage Albertans to eat, drink and buy local.
    It includes a new website that provides information on where to find local food and a push for people to look out for the “Made in Alberta” label.
  5. Candidates have been finalized and are now hitting the Campaign Trail, ahead of the April 28th federal election.
    Locally, 10 candidates in both the Peace River-Westlock, and the re-aligned Grande Prairie riding have let their names stand to represent the ridings on Parliament Hill.
  6. Chris Warkentin is running in another federal election as the Conservative candidate in Grande Prairie.
    He says his experience gives him a strong perspective in a number of areas. (Interview in separate story)
  7. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says hiring lawyers to funnel requests from the auditor general isn’t meant to obstruct an investigation into multimillion-dollar health contracts – it’s about helping get to the truth.
    The NDP’s leader in the legislature, Christina Gray, says the policy suggests a coverup is afoot, and challenged the premier to lift what the NDP calls a “gag order.”
  8. Three Canadian teams are on the ice in a 10-game NHL schedule tonight. Las Vegas is in Calgary, Toronto is in Buffalo, and Chicago is in Ottawa.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays continue their series at Rogers Center tonight against Atlanta. Kevin Gausman started for the Jays against Spencer Schwellenbach.
    It also Jackie Robinson day at the Ballpark, as MLB honours the man who broke the colour barrier, by debuting in the MLB on this day in 1947.
  10. A mix of Sun and Cloud is forecasted for the Peace and Big Lakes this afternoon. The Mackenzie is continuing with rain and snow mixed.
    Highs are in the single-digits, with lows tonight at the freezing mark. Skies clear out and will warm up, to the point that the Peace could see 21 by Good Friday.
