  1. Peace Regional RCMP are searching for a suspect in a B&E this week. Early Tuesday morning saw a person enter a business on 100th St through the garage door.
    However, the alarm sounded and the suspect fled.
  2. RCMP around the area continue to bust impaired drivers. In March and April, Peace Regional RCMP took 20 drivers off the road.
    Drivers caught with Impaired Provincial Sanctions face losing their driver’s license, vehicle impounding, various fines and possible imprisonment.
  3. The Hutton Creek Fire east of Deadwood, is now classified as Being Held.
    The fire started last week as a prescribed burn, but escaped containment, due to unexpected wind gusts.
  4. Fire bans are starting to blanket Northwestern Alberta, as the heart of Wildfire season continues.
    Much of the region is under the Ban, except for a few pockets, where restrictions are still in place.
  5. The town of High Level has received Grant money for housing development.
    $200,000 in provincial funding, plus a matching $200,000 from the town, will go to the Expanding Housing Opportunities Project in High Level.
  6. The Northland School Division has approved the expansion of schools.
    In coordination with the On-line School, Gift Lake School has added Grade 10, and Grouard School has added Grade 11 to their attendance.
  7. Local Baseball season starts this weekend with a Montney League Weekend Tournament in High Prairie.
    Teams in all four age divisions are gathering at Jaycee Park for games, that start at 5:30 tonight.
  8. In local hockey news, the High Prairie Red Wings are one of four teams in the National Junior Hockey League, that have left the League, due to a vote of non-confidence.
    The Red Wings, Lac La Biche, Mayerthorpe, and Vulcan will play in the newly formed Alberta Elite Junior Hockey League, with a fifth team in Onion Lake Saskatchewan.
  9. The Centennial Cup national Jr A Hockey Championships continues for Calgary. The Grande Prairie Storm play their first game tonight against Sudbury.
  10. NHL playoffs tonight… Game 3 – Toronto is in Florida, the Leafs lead 2-0. Game 2 – Dallas is in Winnipeg, the Stars took the opening game.
  11. The Toronto Blue Jays travel up I-5 tonight and start a three-game weekend set in Seattle. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Luis Castillo.
  12. Sunshine and pleasent temperature are in store for this Mother’s Day Weekend.
    Highs will be nudging 20 degrees during the day, but lows might be a little chilly at night, at just above freezing. Might see some rain on Saturday night in the Big Lakes.
