With Hollywood going back to well for remakes it was only a matter of time before the classic The Color Purple was going to get remade. This time round it will be a musical with the cast including some notable singers.
The movie about the story of the life-long struggles of an African American woman living in the south during the early 1900s, will include Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Ciara and Halle Bailey. The film is directed by Blitz Bazawule and produced by Oprah Winfrey (starred in the original movie) Steven Spielberg (directed the original movie), Scott Sanders, Quincy Jones.
The movie is advertised as “a bold new take on the beloved classic” rather than a remake per se, which is based on the stage musical, which is based on the Alice Walker novel of the same name.
The adaptation is set to hit cinemas on Christmas Day, though originally scheduled for December 20th before swapping dates with the Aquaman sequel.
