Here are the highlights of the September 3, 2024 Regular Meeting of Council
• RCRC Update on Cummings Lake: The Ring Creek Recreation Company (RCRC) shared exciting updates on Cummings Lake Campground! This includes trail maintenance, facility improvements, better wheelchair accessibility, lake treatment for prevention of blue-green algae. Council agreed to continue covering the utility bills as before.
• Exciting Start to the School Year!
NWP is bustling with energy this year—so much so that we had standing room only at the theatre for orientation! Let’s give a warm welcome to all the new students joining our community this week. 


• Welcome Week Is Here! This week is all about making new faces feel at home. If you see someone new, be sure to say hello and make them feel welcome!
• Fairview Housing Strategy
: The Economic Development Committee has reviewed the Fairview Housing Strategy. Now, it’s time to take action and implement some of the recommendations. Stay tuned!

• Council at Alberta Municipalities Convention
Later this month, three of our councillors will be heading to the annual Alberta Municipalities convention. They’ve planned a meeting with the Minister of Health to discuss important topics like doctor/nurse recruitment, hospital emergency room closures, and a new CT scanner for our hospital.

• Aquatic Centre HVAC Update
Our Aquatic Centre’s big rooftop HVAC unit is 22 years old and nearing its end of life. We’re planning to replace it and will start by getting an assessment to apply for a grant to cover part of the costs.

• Golf Club Loan
Council has agreed to loan the Fairview Golf Club $50,000 for new golf carts! They’ll be paying it back over the next five years. If you’re a golfer, now’s a great time to book a round and check out the new carts before winter arrives!

• STM School News
It’s official—Holy Family Catholic Regional Division is now in charge of STM school. Exciting times ahead!

• New Development Agreement
Council has entered into a development agreement with HawkView Ag Ltd. for a new fertilizer plant on the east end of 102 Ave. Fun fact: Our town is home to three agricultural companies—Cargill, Nutrien, and HawkView Ag—that provide products and services for our farmers.
