Some of Peace River’s wastewater infrastructure is aging and the town is doing something about it. The town is borrowing $4,461,000 to replace sewer lines, a life station as well as a reservoir on the west hill. “Reservoir 365 used to be the town’s water treatment plant,” said Town of Peace River Director of Engineering and Infrastructure, Jim McQuaig in an e-mail to the Trending 55 Newsroom. “With the construction of the Shaftesbury Estates water treatment plant, 365 has been used as a reservoir. Due to its age, it has reached the end of its life span and needs to be decommissioned and replaced.”
McQuaig adds the town is also replacing Lift Station 4, as well as the Shaftesbury main sewer lines, part one and two. “Life Station 4 needs to be replaced to handle the capacity coming from the Lower West Peace neighbourhood. This is being done in conjunction with the Shaftesbury Sanitary Sewer line projects which will allow the sanitary sewage from Shaftesbury to bypass Lift Station No. 4.”
McGuaig also mentioned that the reservoir will be replaced by next summer, while the sewer lines and left station should be complete by fall of 2020. The down is using the debenture instrument to borrow the funds for the replacements.
