Earlier this week, Town of Peace River Council and staff engaged in a mock emergency exercise.
In our pretend scenario, a truck had overturned in the community and released harmful chemicals, forcing an evacuation. The Peace River Fire Department responded to the scene, while council gathered and debated whether to implement a state of local emergency.
From there, we roleplayed our response, including taking calls from concerned residents, addressing the media in a press conference, discussing the duties we’d each have in this scenario, and identifying any evacuation centres, road closures, and more.
Emergency preparedness is top of mind for everyone here at the Town, which is why these exercises are so important.
Thank you to Fire Chief Tim Harris and Captain Michael Frayne for guiding us in this exercise.
(Just to be super clear – this was a training exercise. There was no real incident and never any danger.)
