Another leadership race is underway for the Conservative Party of Canada.

Arnold Viersen, the MP for Peace River-Westlock, says there’s some things he wants to see from the next party leader.

“I definitely would like someone that holds up the values and interests of Northern Alberta and defends them on the national stage and so I’ll be looking for a leader that does those kinds of things. Hopefully the good folks of Northern Alberta will buy Conservative Party memberships so that they can participate in the selection of the leader. We are a grassroots party, and the selection of the leader comes down to the membership voting.”

The Trending 55 Newsroom spoke to Viersen about the Party leadership situation after Erin O’Toole was voted out last week.

“Many people had come forward to me and were saying after the election that they weren’t happy with Erin O’Toole. They were looking for him to be replaced and so that process took place last week in a caucus vote. I want to thank Erin O’Toole for his time as leader and I’m looking forward to the party moving on with the new leadership race.”

This will be the third time in six years that the Tories will have a leadership race.
