Peace River-Westlock MP, Arnold Viersen and the federal Conservative Party want some answers.

Viersen says his party wants a full and transparent inquiry into the federal government’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with the Trending 55 Newsroom, Viersen tells us the United States is recovering at a faster pace than Canada.

“I was hoping to see that we could re-open the border (to the US) sooner rather than later and travelling back-and-forth readily,” he says.

“But currently, our case count is higher than the United States and that is due to the fact that they have been able to the vaccines rolling out, and we have not be able to.”

Viersen also tells us that Canada has been accessing vaccines from the Covax initiative, which is meant to secure doses for poorer nations.

He also feels that working with China in securing vaccines is a choice that has him scratching his head.

“Relying on China as our number one vaccine provider has been a total failure and I don’t know why we did that.”

Viersen also had a comment about the Gracelife Church west of Edmonton being barricaded by Alberta Health Services for violating public health rules and holding services with large crowds.

He says the action was appalling.

“In a free and democratic society, we should not be chaining up doors to churches and putting up barricades around them to prevent people from going to church,” states Viersen.

“I understand that we do have the COVID situation, but we do also have fundamental freedoms with freedom to worship being one of them so surely Mr. Kenney and Mr. (Pastor James) Coates can sit down and sort this out.”
