Wages Decline Once Again in Alberta

Wages in Alberta continue their downward decline.

Numbers from Statistics Canada show that employees earned $1,108 on average in February 2017, down 8.1 percent year over year.

In a news release, ATB Financial says despite the lower earnings, Albertans are still the best paid employees among the 10 Canadian provinces.

But, officials do warn that the gap is starting to narrow.

The bank says that the job sub-sectors mostly seeing reduction includes administration, waste management, construction, manufacturing, as well as wholesale and retail trade.

But, on the opposite end of the scale, people who work in utilities, finance, food service and the arts industries actually saw increases year over year.
