People seem to have a desire to watch animals do things. From the Fish Doorbell in the Netherlands, to the concept of a zoo, this is something that we humans have wanted to do for a while. That idea is upheld with the Great Moose Migration- an event in Sweden that takes place around this time each year.
This is a tradition that has been in place since 2019, where Sweden’s national television service will broadcast a series of cameras placed around Ångerman River, located about 300 kilometers north of Stockholm. This 24 hour per day livestream is filled with mostly nothing, just people watching the river, but every now and again there will be a group of moose that cross the river — that’s what the excitement is about.
This isn’t just a small thing either – last year the event had about 9 million viewers.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my fair share of time wasting live-stream sessions and YouTube videos – for example, a 6 hour video on the history of a video game series – but I’ve never seen one that I’ve watched for 20 days straight. But hey, if the Swedes enjoy it, then let them have it I guess.
