A general manager of a Western Hockey League made a visit to some hockey games in the Peace Region.
Chad Leslie of the Swift Current Broncos says he’s keeping a close eye on one of his teams prospects, Jaxen Gauchier who plays for the North Peace Navigators.
“We always liked Jaxen in his bantam year just for his ability to find the net. He was a natural scorer and has a real good nose for the net and in the last couple of years, he’s developed a little bit of physicality to his game as well. We feel he’s a very complete 200 foot player and has some upside and enjoys being physical. We feels there’s some tremendous upside with Jaxen as a 200 foot player for sure.”
Since joining the Navs, Gauchier has scored 18 points in 12 games.
Leslie came to watch Gauchier play as he evaluates prospects in his organization.
“We just want to see some development of where they’re at from when you had them in camp and see where they’re at right now in mid-season. Just making sure that they’re habits are good, that they’re doing all the right things and focusing on the right things. A lot of times, I think guys can get focused on numbers and production as opposed to playing the right way so we just want to have these periodical check-ins and make sure they’re developing the way we like them.”
