In the Peace River Forest Area, the Hutton Creek Prescribed Burn is set to take place, aiming to enhance wildlife habitat and reduce wildfire risks.

Spanning 970 hectares near the Hutton Creek and Cadotte River drainages, this initiative will rejuvenate early successional forest cover, promoting ecological health by creating nutrient-rich habitats for diverse plant and animal species.

By removing dense vegetation, the burn will also lower the intensity of potential wildfires, safeguarding nearby communities and infrastructure.

While the area will be temporarily closed to the public during operations, roads will remain open with possible speed reductions.

The main unit ignition is expected in late April to early May, contingent on weather conditions, using both ground and aerial techniques.
