Work is continuing on battling wildfires in the Peace and Mackenzie while more fires have popped up elsewhere in the province.

Jasper is among the latest communities to order an evacuation due to wildfires, a reception centre for those evacuees has been set up at the Bonnetts Energy Centre in Grande Prairie.

Meanwhile on the Little Red River Cree Nation, some lightning strikes happened yesterday in the area around the Semo Complex Fires.

However, there were some clearer skies which allowed helicopters to aid in the firefighting efforts.

Alberta crews (including those from the Little Red River Cree Nation) are being aided by firefighters from Alaska, Ontario, P.E.I. and New Brunswick.

Heavy equipment operators have been removing some vegetation near Highway 58 to help with containing the fires.

Access to the highway east of Boyer has been restricted with the exception of water trucks and emergency personnel.
