Wildfire Update – July 26

Even though we’ve been getting some rain recently, the wildfire danger is still classified as “extreme” in Northwestern Alberta.

The rain though has been helping firefighters in battling the Semo Complex Fires.

Equipment is being used to contain the fire from getting past highway 58, and also protecting structures in John D’or Prairie, Fox Lake and Garden River.

An increase in winds today could present a challenge to firefighters however.

As of this morning, there are over 170 active wildfires happening across Alberta, 54 are labeled as “out of control”.

People going out to any lakes are being asked to give room for airtankers looking to get water for firefighting efforts.

Failing to do so impedes firefighting effort and Albertans who do not comply could face a mandatory court appearance.
