According to the Town of High Level, the water supply contains no lead. That’s according to the town’s operations manager, Keith Straub, who says the towns water pipes are not made of lead. “Our main lines are cement, or P.V.C. and our service lines are copper and P.V.C.” The town issued a statement on its water system following national media reports indicating lead levels in water of many Canadian cities are above federal guidelines.

Straub also says High Level gets its water tested twice a year. “They not only test for lead, they test for a variety of heavy metals and other potential contaminants. Testing over the last 20 years I have reviewed show that we have no indication of lead within the distribution system,” mentioned Straub.

Anyone who lives in an older home who has any concerns about the possibility of lead being present in their water lines may choose to have a plumber or home inspector inspect the lines for the presence of lead containing products and may recommend water testing options.

The results of that testing can be forwarded to A.H.S. and staff will work with those residents to assist them in addressing potential issues with the type of water system materials they have and will provide advice or direction on the next steps required.
