Peace River’s Midget & Bantam AA’s Begin 2017/18 Season

The Peace River Midget “AA” Royals began the 2017-18 season in the Northern Alberta Midget Hockey League (NAMHL) over the weekend.

And things started off with a win at home on Friday, September 29, 2017. The Royals edged out the Wainwright Polar Kings by a score of 4-3.

Team Manager Danny Jung said in an email that Robert Lemay, Terrik Brennan, Kevin Schlack and Dawson Gour were the ones that scored each of the goals, while Mason Ward made 35 saves in net for the Royals.

The Royals are set to hit the road this weekend. They’ll be in Lloydminster on Saturday, before arriving in Fort Saskatchewan on Sunday.

The team is set to return to the Baytex Energy Centre on Saturday, October 14. They’re set to play host to the Fort McMurray Barons.

As well, the Peace River Bantam “AA” Sabres also began their season yesterday.

But, unlike the Royals, the Sabres actually came up short in both of their games.

On Saturday, September 30, they lost to the Fort McMurray Barons by a score of 3-2; On October 1, they fell to the Barons again, this time by a 3-1 score.

Mason Lavoie was able to score two points in both games, scoring an assist on Saturday and the team’s only goal on Sunday. Scoring the two goals in Saturday’s game were Kyle Dickie and Mathieu Maisonneuve.

Over in net, Jesse Schweigert was able to make 22 saves in net on Saturday, and a whopping 39 saves on Sunday.

The Sabres are also on the road this weekend, as they head off to the Edmonton area. They’re in Fort Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 7, while they arrive in Sturgeon on October 8.
