- 57 wildfires are currently burning in the province’s forest protection area, 17 are considered out of control.
Evacuation orders for Peerless Lake and Trout Lake are still in effect. Evacuation Alerts are still in effect in Red Earth Creek, Chateh, and the Hawk Hills, north of Manning. - Highways in the Northwest might be a little busier, as some residents take today off for a self-induced long weekend, and because students are out of school for summer holidays.
- Only 25% of the major crops in the Peace Region are rated as being in Good to Excellent condition, way below the 5-year average of 76%.
Surface soil moisture level ratings in the Peace are 33% Good and 3% Excellent. Below the 5-year provincial average of 45% Good and 23% Excellent. - Three years after the Provincial government paid $70 million for children’s pain and fever medicine, AHS says the medicine is being donated to the charity group, Health Partners International of Canada to distribute to “vulnerable communities worldwide.”
- The final numbers are in on last year’s Alberta budget, and the bottom-line figure is an $8.3-billion surplus.
Finance Minister NateHorner also says a little more than $5 billion of the surplus is cash the province can spend, and the government will split it between its rainy-day Heritage Fund, paying down debt and savings. - The Toronto Blue Jays start a four-game set at home to the Yankees tonight. Right now, the Oilers have about $14 million dollars worth of Cap space to play with. - A mix of Sun and Ckloud is forecasted for the rest of this long weekend, if you were allowed to take one. Highs are in the mid to high 20’s, with lows in the low to mid teens.
