The highly controversial Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions for 2023 have been announced, and yes they are divisive than ever.
In the Performer Category:
- George Michael (was 1st in a fan vote)
- Kate Bush
- Willie Nelson
- Sheryl Crow
- The Spinners
- Rage Against The Machine
- Missy Elliot
Notably missing are Iron Maiden and Sound Garden, who were 4th/5th in the fan voting. Somehow “Faith” and “Careless Whisper” were are more Rock and Roll than “Run To The Hills” or “Number of The Beast.” Cyndi Lauper and Warren Zevon were numbers 2 and 3 in the fan vote were nowhere to be found on the list.
The Musical Influence Award
- DJ Kool Herc (Hip-hop pioneer. This, after all the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop.)
- Link Wray (Groundbreaking guitarist from the late 50s/early 60s)
Musical Excellence Award
- Chaka Khan
- Bernie Taupin (Elton John’s lyricist.)
Ahmet Ertegun Award (Given to a builder of the music industry)
- Don Cornelius (The TV producer who created Soul Train back in the 70s
The induction ceremony will take place in November in New York.
