  1. Valleyview RCMP have four in custody after a firearms-related search warrant on the Sturgeon Lake reserve.
    18 year-old Hayden Halcrow of High Prairie, 29 year-old Jeneva Chowace of Valleyview, a 31 year-old from Edmonton and a 16 year-old youth were charged.
  2. Fire Departments around the region is preparing the public for the winter season, by getting them to perform simple tasks, and thinking about others.
    Fire Prevention Week is this week, with the theme being, “Charge into Fire Safety”, emphasizing Lithium-ion batteries in your home. (Scott Smith interview in separate story)
  3. New Councils have been elected at the eight Metis settlements across Northern Alberta.
    In this region, the settlements in Gift Lake, Paddle Prairie, Peavine, and East Prairie have selected their five people to represent Council.
  4. The Peace River Business Community is looking for nominations to be celebrated.
    The Chamber of Commerce is also looking for judges to volunteer and be on the selections committee. Nominations are being accept throughout October.
  5. Premier Danielle Smith is in Ottawa this week, following up on her pledge to help fund the development of a new oil pipeline to Canada’s West Coast.
    Smith is hopeful the project can be submitted for consideration by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new Major Projects Office by next spring.
  6. NWJHL tonight… (2 games) North Peace is in FSJ, and Sexsmith is in Grande Prairie.
  7. NHL tonight… (4 games) Calgary is in Edmonton, Montreal is in Toronto, Boston is in Washington, and LA’s in Vegas.
  8. MLB playoffs… Seattle is in Detroit, Milwaukee is in Chicago, Toronto is in New York, and Philidelphia is in LA.
  9. The Mackenzie and Big Lakes will be moisturizing throughout the day today, as rain, possibly mixed with some snow, will fall.
    Meanwhile, the Peace will see increasing clouds this afternoon. Highs will barely reach 10 degrees, with lows tonight being below freezing, under partly cloudy skies.
    Digits rebound for Thursday and Friday, but the long weekend will need some layers.
