RCMP presents tip against property crime

rcmp-jpg-21

As temperatures drop, the Alberta RCMP is advising residents to take proactive steps to prevent seasonal property crime, which often increases during the off-season due to fewer people around.

To safeguard your property, store off-road vehicles like ATVs and snowmobiles in locked garages or sheds, empty their fuel tanks, and use physical barriers such as wheel clamps to deter theft.

Secure farm equipment by locking buildings, removing batteries, and keeping keys in a separate, secure location.

Maintain a log of serial numbers and mark equipment with identifiers like your postal code.

Remove valuables from seasonal properties, lock up any items left behind, and consider posting signs indicating that valuables have been removed.

Ensure all doors, windows, gates, and outbuildings are secured.

For high-value equipment, consider installing security cameras, motion-activated lights, and GPS trackers.

The Alberta RCMP encourages the public to report any suspicious activity to police.
