Peace River’s Annika Behnke is now back home after her medal winning efforts at the Winter Youth Olympics.

Behnke says it meant a lot to her to get rewarded at the games.

“It just means that all my hard work has paid off through the sport. I started at the age of 2 and when I was 10, I moved to Sherwood Park to train so I could improve.

Behnke and her partner Kole Sauve won gold in the pairs skate, and they also won a bronze for Canada in the team event.

After coming home with a couple of medals, Behnke says she’ll be looking to be in more big events in the future.

“My goals for my skating is just to improve on the stuff I need to and keep on striving to get new elements and do better in the future and go to more international competitions.”
