This week, council passed Bill 2038 which will enable Cannabis companies to sell and produce marijuana in the town of Peace River, effective on October 17th of this year.

To get more in detail about the bylaw, Bill 2038 was adjusted after the Mackenzie Municipal Services Agency (MMSA) received their Cannabis survey results. For example. the new bylaw includes a 100 metre distance away from playgrounds and will take into consideration regulations that are in place to prevent clustering, similar to those of liquor stores.

Councillor Johanna Downing says that they are now ready to accept applications and feels that the process has allowed the town of Peace River to feel as though “they have some solid foundation when it comes to being prepared for the changes of the upcoming legislation as it relates to cannabis legislation.”

For more information regarding sales and use within the districts, the bylaw can be found on the Town of Peace River website.
