The County of Northern Lights have hosted a sod turning event to kick off a south regional waterline project costing $31-million.

County of Northern Lights Reeve Terry Ungarian says the second part of the Water for Life Funding which was applied for close to twelve years ago was approved just last year, and that funding will cover 75 per cent of the total budget cost of the project.

The project will see the installation of close to 61 kilometres of pipe from the Town of Peace River to the Hamlet of Dixonville. The project also includes a couple of truckfill stations along the route.

The waterline will provide safe, potable drinking water for residents in the southern wards, and is the biggest project the County of Northern Lights has ever undertaken.
