COVID-19 UPDATE: April 19

On April 19, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,391 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 172,186.

Three people passed away, which means 2,043 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

460 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 17,432 cases of COVID-19 and 151 people have passed away.

There are currently 2,575 active cases in our zone with 139 in Mackenzie County, 104 in Big Lakes County, 39 in the MD of Peace, 30 in the MD of Fairview, 29 in the MD of Greenview, 22 in Clear Hills County, 17 in Northern Sunrise County, 16 in the MD of Smoky River, 13 in MD of Spirit River and the County of Northern Lights, eight in Saddle Hills County, and five in Birch Hills County.

AHS is reporting that 151,719 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 18,424 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • The Grocery People, High Level
  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • RCC Simonette Lodge, Valleyview
  • St. Theresa General Hospital, Fort Vermilion

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
