COVID-19 UPDATE: January 11

On January 11, Alberta Health Services confirmed 639 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 112,091.

23 people passed away, which means 1,307 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 8,387 cases of COVID-19 and 77 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,668 active cases in our zone with 145 in Big Lakes County, 99 in the MD of Peace, 78 in Northern Sunrise County, 76 in the MD of Greenview, 28 in Mackenzie County, five in the MD of Spirit River and Saddle Hills County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 96,867 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 13,917 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete
  • High Prairie Health Complex
  • Peace River Correctional Facility
  • Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, McLennan

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
