Covid-19 Update: May 25

On May 25, 2021 Alberta Health Services confirmed 387 additional cases of COVID-19 in the province. The total number of active cases in Alberta have been dropping significantly and is now at 12,078. Hospitalization rates are also down; there are currently 565 people in hospital with the virus and 158 are in ICU.

In the North Zone for active cases, there are 104 in Mackenzie County, 28 in the MD of Greenview, 12 in the MD of Peace, 11 in the MD of Fairview while all other surrounding counties and MD’s in our region have nine active cases or less.

Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw was asked about low vaccination rates in the High Level area in a press conference Tuesday when she responded saying “it may be a combination of more, younger residents along with the government needing to do more to promote it up there.”

Vaccination rates around our region:

  • Falher area – 41.6%,
  • Peace River area – 37.8%,
  • Spirit River area – 36.3%,
  • Fairview area – 34.6%,
  • Manning area – 34.2%,
  • Valleyview area – 33.1%,
  • High Prairie area – 29.8%
  • High Level area – 11.3%

Premier Jason Kenney along with Health Minister, Tyler Shandro and Minister of Jobs, the Economy and Innovation, Doug Schweitzer will be providing an update on COVID-19 and the province’s strategy for safely easing restrictions Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
