Fairview’s Kenton Helgesen is continuing his hockey career playing in the ECHL.

This season, he’s with the Rapid City Rush located in Rapid City, South Dakota and says the community has a “small town feel.”

“The main tourist attraction here would be Mount Rushmore. I haven’t been there this year but I went a few years back when I was playing for another team in town. It’s pretty good. The community loves hockey here, we’re kinda the main show in town I think so it’s pretty cool. The weather’s a little warmer than back home which is nice but we still get that winter feel which is nice.”

He says one of his big hockey influences growing up was the NPHL’s Fairview Kings.

“I had some family members playing on the team and just watching them, when I grew up that’s what I wanted to do. I was a rink rat I guess, you couldn’t get me off the ice. Watching those guys was pretty cool. The main influence I think was definitely my dad, he kinda pushed me and I’m definitely grateful for that.”
