Flyby Happening in Peace River Today

A fly-in and barbecue is being held on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the Peace River Regional Airport.

The Peace Regional Air Show Association is putting on the event from 4 until 8 PM.

Board Member Henry Vos says a variety of aircraft will be at the event.

“They range from the CANSO the farmers from Fairview restored, also to the very small aircraft, and the very light aircraft,” said Vos. “So, there’s going to be a range of aircraft for the people to look at.”

A fly-by of the CANSO aircraft is expected to happen from 7 until 7:30.

Vos says it’s open for the public to come view the aircraft, and it’s also open to the pilots to come on in and show off their airplanes.

“There will also be a barbecue dinner served at the event,” he said. “Fees are by donation. All the proceeds made at the event will be going to the Peace Regional Air Show Association.”

Corn on the cob will also be served at the event.

As well, a silent auction will also be available, with bidding items including a round-trip Northern Air ticket from Peace River to Calgary, as well as an introductory flight with aero sport.

The next full-scale air show is tentatively scheduled to happen next year.

“It takes a lot of volunteer efforts, and also money to pay for each performance at the air show,” said Vos. “And so, this is an event in the off-year that we can keep some aviation activities, as well as opportunities for the public to see aircraft, and keep our committee active in between the years that we have airshows.”
