Environment Canada is saying extremely heavy rain is on its way to our region this weekend. Totals of 70 to 90 mm of rain are expected, with up to 125mm possible in the Grande Prairie area.

The heaviest rain is expected from the Saddle Hills southward to the Yellowhead highway. Currently, the forecast shows we’ll see the worst of the rain this weekend, but it will continue until Tuesday.

Environment Canada is reminding the public to keep an eye on the forecasts this weekend, as heavy downpours are capable of causing flash floods, and fast-moving water can sweep a vehicle away. Environment Canada also warns everyone not to approach washouts near rivers, culverts and creeks, and campers should avoid low-lying areas.
