Northern Sunrise County Year in Review

There were lots of activities happening in Northern Sunrise County over the last year.  One of them, of course, was being the election on October 31st of Garrett Tomlinson as the new Reeve.  Tomlinson succeeded 14-year Veteran Carolyn Kolebaba, who also agreed to replace Marie Dyck as the new Deputy Reeve.  However, looking back, that’s not all Tomlinson remembers about what happened last year.  One major activity the county completed includes their property assessment, which he says revealed the county has 2.2 billion dollars in properties.  As well, he says the Nampa Civic Centre and Museum opened its doors this year, as well as starting their regional recreational study, with a report to be tabled in March 2015.  Tomlinson also says the county saw growth in the oil and gas sector, despite the drop in oil prices during the second half of the year.  He says Shell, Enbridge and TransCanada still have projects happening in the county, keeping residents employed and contributing to the economy.  For the coming year, Tomlinson says the county will be looking at upgrading the infrastructure for the community of Little Buffalo, to bring it up to the same level as the rest of the province.  As well, he adds the community of Harmon Valley will be getting a new community hall built.
