Peace River Works to Renew Fire Services Agreement with CNL and MD of Peace

Peace River Town Council discussed ongoing negotiations on Shared Fire Services between with both the County of Northern Lights and the Municipal District (MD) of Peace at their latest council meeting.

Council extended the current agreements with both municipalities until December 31, 2017 in order to allow each municipality more time to reach a new one.

As for negotiations, Town Chief Administration Officer (CAO) Chris Parker says they continue to come along.

“We’re just finalizing a few things with our municipal partners,” Parker told the Trending 55 Newsroom. “Once they put the final agreement to bed, they’ll each put their final agreements to a vote.

“We hired an outside consultant to conduct the negotiations,” he continued. “They went through, and provided quite a few proposals, and now we’re just going through all the administrative aspects of it.”

Parker says both will be solid agreements, and will establish the types of services that will be provided to both their partners, and how they can ensure both the County and the MD get the area coverage.

“Not only that, the County of Northern Lights also provide fire personnel themselves,” Parker said. “So in that regard, it’s more of a partnership. The MD of Peace are trying to get to that same level themselves.”

He says overall, the current agreement has been very fruitful and productive for all municipalities involved.
