The Alberta government has started a digital literacy program can help people gain skills for doing things online.
Nate Glubish is the Minister of Technology and Innovation, he says the program is for people looking to develop basic digital literacy or improve existing skills.
“We felt it was important to equip Albertans with some free training to help them to better protect their information, protect their privacy, adopt good cyber-security principles and ultimately equip them with the tools they need to succeed as more and more of our daily lives move into the online realms.”
Glubish says one of their goals for the program is for people learning how to be safer online.
“People are going to be using online tools more, not less, in the future. That’s just the way the world’s going and the decisions we make online can have long lasting effects. We want to make sure that every single Albertan, no matter who they are or where they live, that they can access some free high quality training to help them understand the safest way to interact online and that’s what this program is all about.”
The program is designed for Albertans with little to no experience using computers but incudes a range of topics helpful to anyone looking to boost their digital literacy skills.
