The river ice break-up is predicted to take place sometime next week – that is if the weather cooperates.

According to Alberta’s Environment River Forecasting Division, the river’s ice front should be making its way through town middle to end of next week.

Peace River Fire Chief, Tim Harris provides an update:

“As of yesterday, the ice front was about 50 km upstream; due to the cold weather we are experiencing right now, the ice will advance on the ice front.”

Harris cautions the prediction is weather dependent and reminds residents to steer clear of the river and ice during this time of year,  “The river is dangerous this time of year and is very unstable.”
