The Boone Lake Complex (fires GWF-035 & GWF-038) have exceeded 5,000 hectares in size and they remain Out of Control.
The latest fire weather forecast is predicting east-southeast winds tomorrow in 20-30 kph range, gusting to 50 kph, combined with 25-30 C temperatures and 15-20 % RH.
Forestry contacted Saddle Hills County to inform us of extreme fire behaviour tomorrow, which will cause the fire to increase in size, spreading further west towards the BC border.
Forestry has recommended that we warn all residents downwind, via an Evacuation Alert. This includes mainly Baytree residents south of Hwy 49, and Gundy. We have just issued an Evacuation Alert at 7:07 pm, advising anyone in the identified zone, to prepare to evacuate at some point in the next 24 hours.
Tomorrow, if the fire is going to threaten the Gundy or Baytree area(s), we will issue an Evacuation Order. If this happens, we will be activating reception centers as required.
Emergency preparedness resources can be found on our website and through Be Prepared Alberta. If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive updates like this on this a future fires, please send us a message with your email address or email communications@saddlehills.ab.ca.
Further updates will be provided as they become available.
