Sinclair Working On Getting Solutions For Crime And Homelessness

Lesser Slave Lake MLA Scott Sinclair is among the local politicians working to address concerns around crime and homelessness.

He says there’s a number of things the UCP government is looking to do about the issue.

“On the legal side of things, we’ve looked at making some investments into hiring more prosecutors to help with the legal side of it. Also, I’m very proud that our government is investing so heavily in our long-term treatment centres. This will give us an opportunity to be able to send people to places where they can get better and we can invest in a recovery aspect and hopefully see some of these people off the streets.”

The Province recently announced funding for a new emergency shelter in Slave Lake, which Sinclair says is just one part of solving these problems.

“I always say it’s not one thing, it’s probably ten things. We’re also looking at transitional housing, affordable housing is another big aspect and then after-care facilities. What do we have to provide for people when they’re out of treatments. We understand we have a long road ahead, but we’re trying to make meaningful impacts in our communities.”
