Alberta’s Transportation Minister says different transportation corridors in the province will be integral to economic recovery and revitalization.

Rajan Sawhney was in the region this week and says she had several discussions around important transportation projects in the area.

“I’ve spoken to many people and up North there was lots of conversations around Highway 58. It’s not just about economic corridors but it’s also about safety and accessibility. Those were the conversations we had and I’m excited to be working on these projects.

The Minister also met with the Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement about replacing the ferry at Tompkins Landing with a bridge.

Sawhney tells the Trending 55 Newsroom that right now they’re looking at different options for where that bridge will be.

“I rode on that ferry twice and I can clearly see the need for a bridge in that area. We are working on extensive consultation with Paddle Prairie, they’re going to be partners in this. I know that the local residents are really excited about the opportunities that this bridge is going to afford.”
