Trolls Band Together For A Hit

The 3rd installment of the Trolls movies hit theatres last weekend and it is a great film. The movie explores the backstory of Branch, voiced by Justin Timberlake and his unknown past, expect for how he lost his Grandma and had a bunker.

The plot is Poppy discovers that Branch has a secret past. He was once part of her favorite boyband phenomenon, BroZone, with his four brothers: Floyd, John Dory, Spruce and Clay. BroZone disbanded when Branch was still a baby, as did the family, and Branch hasn’t seen his brothers since. But when Branch’s bro Floyd is kidnapped for his musical talents by a pair of nefarious pop-star villains, Velvet and Veneer, Branch and Poppy embark on a harrowing and emotional journey to reunite the other brothers and rescue Floyd from a fate even worse than pop-culture obscurity.

Trolls 3 makes good fun at boybands and it’s lead voice actors past in one It also made great commentary at the new generation of singers/celebrities who want the fame and fortune but either lack the talent or are unwilling to put in the talent obtain/maintain it. The movie is not afraid to make fun of it’s redundant plot points, pointed out by the Tiny Diamond character. For a kids film it manages to tackle big plot points and bring them full circle.

Trolls is one that kids will love for the catchy pop songs and characters while adults will enjoy the references to the past boybands they grew up with or even some of the hidden humor that will go over the kids heads. They hit the mark with this one after a great first film and lackluster second one. I laughed, I teared up I thoroughly enjoyed the this film especially the last scene where there is a little surprise for the audience.

I am not sure if they will go for a 4th installment but if they do I will be ready and waiting.

Final Grade: 9/10
